Final Bit of Rome

On Thursday, September 15th, we woke up at 5 AM to catch the train to Siena. Apparently, Rome was sad to see us go because it rained on the way to the train station. In our visit to Italy, there has been no language barrier. We have felt much more fluent with our rudimentary Italian than we actually are. The Italian breakfast of a cappuccino and cornetto (pastry, usually filled with cream, apricot jam, pistachio, or Nutella) is so good.
The train ride to Siena through the Italian countryside is gorgeous. Train times in Italy are approximates. If you have to change trains during a trip, there is no guarantee of making the connection on time. You may want to go ahead and factor in extra time and, maybe, a visit to customer service to take the next available train. If possible, purchase train tickets that don't involve a change.
We can't say enough about the hop on-hop off buses in Rome being a good deal. Some of the buses are even air-conditioned, which is handy in the mid-90 degree Rome heat.

P.S. Something else we did for our comfort was getting a hotel room for a couple of hours right when we landed in Rome. There is AirRooms by HelloSky at Fiumicino Airport. You can actually pay for the room according to 3, 6, or 12 hours. The room helped us with jetlag. We may look into this again for future trips.
