Florence, September 20th
San Marco was one of our favorite churches that we visited. The paintings and frescoes were amazing:
Below is the cloak of Father Savanorola. He was instrumental in leading Florentines against the power of the Borgia papacy (Bonfire of the Vanities):
A food experience we had in Florence was getting these wonderful sandwiches from All'antico Vinaio:
Yes, we did visit the Duomo (Santa Maria de Fiore). The cathedral is impressive. Due to the admission price and wanting to do other things, we decided against visiting other parts of the church (the baptistery and the bell tower). Here are views inside the cathedral:
This plaque commemorates a visit to Santa Maria del Fiore by then-Pope John Paul II:
Instead of climbing the bell tower of the Duomo, we went to Piazzale Michelangelo to take in the majesty that is Florence. Piazzale Michelangelo was a beautiful place to wrap up the day. Here are our views:
We ate our final dinner in Florence at the same location as our first dinner. The food and service were exceptional. We also took in Ponte Vecchio one more time. Such beautiful weather and an unforgettable time!
