Rome, September 14th

We started our day venturing close to our AirBnB and checking out Santa Maria in Trastevere:




Before a lot of crowds, we were able to make it over the Santa Maria in Cosmedin, which house the Boca di Vertias (Mouth of Truth):


We had to have our Gregory Peck/Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday moments:

Later on, we visited the Pantheon:




















One thing tourists do, and we were no exception, is visit the Gatti di Roma, an amazing cat sanctuary at the site where Julius Caesar was killed. We gave the kitties a "Ciao" from Marilyn (our kitty):



We did so much, including having gelato at one of the best gelaterias in Italy, Gelateria S.M. Maggiore. A quote from Gary, "The gelato is so good, you can't take a picture or video of it. Gelato is supposed to be eaten, not admired." Before leaving Rome, we could not pass up a visit to the Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi):

We did throw coins in the fountain to ensure another return to Rome. We feel so fortunate and blessed to take such a wonderful vacation.

Roma Part II

The vacation has been a dream. When we arrived back in Rome, we ate dinner at the Mercato Centrale in Rome. Trappazino, pizza, and gelato was the perfect meal to end our trip. We do recommend this mercato over the Mercato Centrale in Florence. The hotel we stayed in for our last night on vacation was nice. Because they were aware it was our honeymoon, the hotel gave us two free drinks at the bar. We did have one last Italian breakfast of a cappuccino and cornetto at the airport (I, Gary, splurged and had 2 cornetti.) Ciao, Italy! A doppo! We will return!

Florence, September 19th

Originally, we had the idea of  going to Montespertoli, but decided against it so we would be able to see more of Florence. From the private patio of our beautiful hotel suite, Gary took a picture of the sunrise behind the Duomo: We visited the Palazzo Vecchio located in the Piazza della Signoria: Here's a view into the majestic Hall of 500: The two pictures below are reproductions of the (alleged) death mask of Dante Alighieri:   The bust below is of Niccolo Machiavelli. Not a very imposing looking figure, but historically he was a force to be reckoned with. In the Mercato Nuovo near the Ponte Vecchio, there is a statue of a pig. There's a tradition that you are to rub the pig's nose for good luck. Gary obliged and let the pig wear his hat for extra good luck: We also visited Basilica de Santa Maria Novello: Just in case, that is not an actual dead person seen in the picture below: You can not visit too many churches in Italy.
